I have a piece of driftwood that Im preparing...?

I have a piece of driftwood that I am preparing for my 55 gallon tank. I put it in the sink in my basement and submerged it in water and let the color come out. They say three or four days and it should be good. Well I have been changing it out for a month and a half now what is going on? Is there anything I can do or anything i'm doing wrong? Or anything I haven't done?
