Is Criss Angel's audience real?

This is obviously a reality show to me and most people. I don't believe the tricks, of course, as do most people. My husband thinks that the audience that watches is "all" actors. I know there might be some key actors to aid in his illusions, but he thinks they are all actors and it is the stupidest debate I've ever had. Can someone please explain the idea of a "reality show".
